Curating

I have been involved in curatorial work for almost three decades. As the Director of Montreal’s Visual Arts Centre and McClure Gallery (1996 – 2017), I re-established the McClure as a contemporary art venue and introduced a popular publication programme for exhibiting artists as well as a guest curatorial programme. I was involved in the curating of both solo and group exhibitions and the gallery’s celebrated ceramic biennales. During this time, I was also Curator of the City of Westmount Municipal Gallery (1999 – 2022). As their inaugural curator, I helped define the gallery’s programme and protocols and organized approximately 160 exhibitions. In both venues, I facilitated artist talks, public lectures, and special events.

Currently, I work as a curatorial consultant, helping artists select and organize their work for exhibition. As an artist myself, this is a deeply gratifying engagement. It involves in-depth discussion with artists regarding their objectives and vision, a critical review of their work and together making a selection that best allows specific themes or aspects of an artist’s voice to be emphasized.  Often, this involves the writing of curatorial texts for accompanying catalogues.
